Guaranteed Entries for the 2010 New York City Marathon
Sport Endeavours International has been the official tour operator for the
NYCM since SA's readmittance to international sport
in 1991. We are especially proud that SA runners like Josia Thugwane (
Olympic
Marathon
Champion) and Willie Mtolo (winner of the 1992 NYCM) were part of our groups
in the past.
This is our 19th tour to the NYCM and we have 70 guaranteed entries available.
New York, a city people feel passionate about
Love it or hate it, admit it: this city has a character like nowhere else in
the world to be copied or found. This city also arguably hosts the greatest road
running experience - the New York City Marathon, 42.2 kilometers of unbelievable
experience.
Each year the New York City Marathon (NYCN) attracts thousands of runners. In 2009 close to 39 000
people from 100 nations participated in the 40th New York City Marathon.
The NYCM has become a rich tradition in New York and not only attracts thousands of runners but also
millions of spectators.
On race day, the streets of New York are literally lined with spectators geared with posters, and flags to loudly cheer on the multinational field.
Participants are taken on an exhilarating route through the five boroughs of
New York to the finish in Central Park, Manhatten.
Some of the unique characteristics of the NYCM are that there are no qualifying and no cut-off time
making the event accessible for both serious runners and those who just want to enjoy
the magical setting of New York.
International participation is, however, restricted by a quota system and only
pre-approved operators from various countries may enter international participants.
Sport Endeavours International (SEI), the first official representative in South Africa for
the New York City Marathon, prides itself in its long-standing relationship with the NYCM and the South African
athletes they have taken to this world class event.
During 1992 a young, shy and unknown runner joined the group and
to the surprise of all went on to win the 1992 New York City Marathon,
and of course today Willie Mtolo needs no introduction!
Another well-known personality who
has participated as part of the SEI group is Josiah Thugwane, Olympic
Marathon Champion. Truly the
stuff that dreams are made of.
But, this is an event to be experienced. Don't go for your "PB", take a camera with on the route and make sure that you introduce yourself to at least 5 other runners.
As part of the NYCM's international participation policy, SEI received guaranteed entries for the 2010 event.
Entries are available on "a first come first serve basis", as the NYCM is open to all runners and
walkers and no qualifying time is required.
